Matthew-Lee has written for Masters of Sex on Showtime and Gypsy on Netflix. A recipient of the Humanitas Prize New Voices Award, Matthew-Lee has received support from the National Endowment for the Arts, Laurents/Hatcher Foundation, Elizabeth F. Cheney Foundation, Puffin Foundation, and was a member of Ars Nova's 14/15 Play Group.
